I'd like to think that life is like playing the guitar. If you play too hard, you break a string. If you play too soft, no one is going to hear you. It's about balance. It's about feeling the strings. It's about defining your own way to play.Life is music, it's rhythm and blues, it's rock & roll. It's a heartbeat when you decide to close your eyes and listen, and feel, and live.
Music is the closest to heaven I'm ever going to reach. And from where I'm standing, with this guitar in my hands - I'm halfway there. This guitar is a mode of expression. The music I can find, the words I write, and the emotions I can capture - There's nothing that can compare. Nothing. Because this defines me. It gives an outline on something that no one can capture with words. And that's what's beautiful about it. That's why.

I was playing a couple years back with few guys in a casual jam session, the closest to my age being a gentleman in his 40s. The singer, a wonderful jazz scat vocalist by the name of Chauncey came to me after our session and said this to me: "No matter what happens, that (pointing to the bass in my hands) will take you further than any one person in this world can. Music is not about what "you" can do for me but rather what "I" can do for myself." After reading your blog I thought you would appreciate that bit of wisdom.

I love your outlook on music and your analogies on life with regard to music. It seems as though you know how to appreciate music and create meaning in different situations.
I've always found it neat how music can influence people and help to shape their outlook on life.
People are influenced and connected to music on many levels, which I think you captured well in your thoughts and outlook.
Stefan, sometimes it's good to read things that I already know. That being the case, it was good to read "It's about balance. It's about defining your own way to play," which is what life really is all about. I wish I could say I can play the guitar, but I can't. Actually, it's that I haven't put forth enough effort to say I tried hard enough.
i feel like your entry read like song lyrics.

Hey Stefan! I chose to comment on your blog because I thought it was interesting that both you and Justin, who I did my class interview with, chose a guitar. I personally do not play guitar but after reading about how much of a part of both of your lives it is, I gained more of an understanding of how connected you must feel to your music.
I agree so much with your blog. Given I don't play the guitar, but I think that the comparison you made is very true. And knowing you personally, I think there is nothing better to represent you than a guitar.
